Ivo Nilsson (1966) is one of the foremost Swedish interpreters on his instrument – the trombone. He made his debute as a soloist with the Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra in 1989 and ever since he is an innovator concerning interpretive practices. Ivo specializes in contemporary classical music and performs regularly at festivals and series of modern music worldwide. It is said about Ivo Nilsson that he as a musician is associated with “carefully constructed tonal qualities and the weighing of timbres, to the milligram”.

Ivo is a member of the ensembles KammarensembleN, Ensemble Son, Ma and Axelsson & Nilsson-duo. He is also frequently performing with internationally renowned ensembles such as Ensemble Modern, Ensemble Reconsil and Klangforum Wien. Ivo has received many awards during the years such as ”The interpreters price” from the Swedish Society of Composers in 2007.

Ivo Nilsson was the artistic director of Stockholm New Music festival 2003 and 2005, and he is also one of the artistic directors of Kontinent Dalsland a new international festival for contemporary music, set in Dalsland, Sweden.

He is chairman of KammarensembleN and he was elected member of the Royal Swedish Academy of Music in 2017. He is a much appreciated lecturer and holder of master classes all over the world.
